Devlog #3 - Graphics!
Welcome to another Devlog! [#3]
This update focused heavily on improving or well, more like adding graphics. It went fairly smoothly but it did take a bit longer than I thought and still requires a lot of work. I ended up finishing most of what I wanted to achieve for this update, the only thing I didn't was the speed preservation system that I mentioned in Devlog #2
Graphics!
They are finally here! Well, mostly... This was just a first "pass" and it will be continually updated and enhanced as the development moves on. So, like I said, large chunk of the time went into this. This included doing a lot of prototyping of different ideas on how to match the blocking to something that makes sense. Meaning that the design is "grounded" into reality. It's still not quite fully there but mostly I am honestly pretty happy how this turned out!
New Mechanics
Sliding
I added sliding like promised, it's honestly quite fun. Right now though it doesn't really do anything. But later when I keep on working on new levels/improving levels I will integrate some use for it.
Landing
The landing mechanic actually already existed, I just expanded on it with animations and added a "heavy" landing. Actually a roll landing. They can be completely mitigated by pressing the slide key shortly before landing. It cannot be spammed to achieve this though.
What's Next?
The Steam page is coming!
I plan to create an initial Steam page featuring a new gameplay trailer, images and basic information about the game. I also want to include a demo build.
Then, I aim to implement online leaderboards using Steamworks.
Of course, I'll continue enhancing the graphics and the game in general as much as possible. Depending how much time I have left for that but for the next update this is not the main area of focus.
I have some ideas for gameplay as well. I'm considering adding collectibles to introduce an element of exploration. Another mechanic I'm excited about is challenges. I've already decided that challenges will be part of the game, though they might not make it into the next update just yet. Most likely collectibles would be part of the challenges if it ends up coming to the game.
See You Next Time! :)
